NIRSA Board of Directors approves 2024–2027 Strategic Framework

The NIRSA Board of Directors approved the 2024–2027 Strategic Framework at their March 5 meeting. This approval comes after months of committed, forward-thinking and strategic visioning by the Strategic Framework Leadership Team. This team included the NIRSA Board of Directors, NIRSA Staff members, Member Network Chair Greg Durham, Foundation Board President Sophia Marshall, Foundation Board member Yvette Kell, NSC Board President Jill Krantz, and NSC Board Vice President Dave Peters. NIRSA membership provided invaluable input during this process.

NIRSA Board President Dr. Wendy Windsor shares, “As we continue to redefine and reimagine our industry, I am excited for the launch of the 2024–2027 strategic framework. Examining current environmental factors impacting our work, the Strategic Framework Leadership Team diligently worked to identify goals and strategies needed to navigate this critical junction of the profession. Over the next few years, vital work will be needed to establish a robust pipeline of professionals to lead, influence, and impact the future of collegiate recreation.”

Building forward

The 2024–2027 Strategic Framework continues to iterate and build upon the plans that came before it. NIRSA’s mission, vision, and values remain unchanged. The language of NIRSA’s core value proposition was evolved to more clearly match NIRSA’s current and future programs and services.

This strategic framework also names foundational pillars that are essential and enduring to NIRSA’s work. The Shared Expectations for Belonging, crafted by the Climate Study Implementation Team and adopted by the NIRSA Board in 2023, is embedded in the framework. Providing member value and responsible stewardship of resources is also written into the framework.

As in the past, the framework delineates three strategic goals—a robust pipeline of supported and motivated professionals, advocacy, and wellbeing—and strategies for each. Read more about these in the strategic framework itself.

Thank you

Over 1000 members were engaged directly throughout the planning process—and we are so grateful for your input! NIRSA engaged Association Laboratory to conduct the fourth iteration of a survey that gathers data about the environment within which campus recreation professionals work. The results were used in the strategic framework planning process and formed the basis for the Industry Insights report.

Like in previous strategic framework cycles, accountability partners played an integral role. Accountability partners are NIRSA leadership groups responsible for executing the strategic framework. They provided feedback throughout the process and reviewed a full draft of the framework. Thank you to the NSC Board, Foundation Board, Member Network, and NIRSA Staff.

We look forward to collectively moving the needle when it comes to the goals and strategies of this strategic framework as we continue advancing the field of campus recreation!
