Report: Major Levy decisions needed as 11 Spurs players enter the final year of their contract

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has explained that Tottenham Hotspur have a number of key decisions ahead of them over the coming months, with a huge pile of players entering the final years of their contracts this summer.

This summer will be crucial for Johan Lange, Ange Postecoglou and co as Spurs look to build a squad which can compete on multiple fronts next season.

While the Lilywhites will soon start compiling a list of their top transfer targets, they will also have to make some big decisions on the future of a number of their players.

Tottenham contract situations

Gold has now stated that not only will the contracts of a couple of players run out this summer but as many as 12 first-team players will also enter the final years of their deals.

He points out that Ryan Sessegnon will be a free agent in June unless Tottenham activate the one-year extension in his deal and suggests that the club might also offer Brandon Austin, who is also out of contract this summer, a new deal, given their shortage of homegrown players.

The journalist then points out that captain Son Heung-min leads a big list of players who will have just 12 months left to run in their deals at Hotspur Way at the end of the season.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Giovani Lo Celso and Ben Davies are in the same boat as are two of the goalkeepers in Fraser Forster and Alfie Whiteman.

Additionally, five of the returning loan players in Tanguy Ndombele, Sergio Reguilon, Joe Rodon, Japhet Tanganga and Troy Parrott are also contracted to the club only until 2025. Tottenham thus have to make a number of decisions on who to hand out new deals to and who to cash in on.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is quite clear that the senior stars who are out on loan are likely to be sold at the end of the season while Perre-Emile Hojbjerg and Giovani Lo Celso will also probably be moved on.

One would expect Tottenham to offer new deals to both Son and Forster. The club do face an interesting decision with respect to both Sessegnon and Parrott. The decision on the latter might be made after Ange Postecoglou takes a close look at the striker during pre-season.
