‘Wasn’t easy at all’ – South American Spurs star reveals how he overcame heartbreak

0 1

Tottenham Hotspur have not been able to call upon the services of Giovani Lo Celso on a regular basis this season.

Following the arrival of Ange Postecoglou as Tottenham head coach this summer, the Argentine came back into favour as part of the first-team squad having impressed during pre-season.

Frustratingly, injury issues have continued for the midfielder over the course of the campaign which has seen his game time being extremely limited.

The 27-year-old has made just four starts in the Premier League this season having missed nine top flight outings with hamstring and muscular issues, respectively (transfermarkt).

Lo Celso has been speaking about the frustration he experienced last season when a hamstring tear while on loan during Villarreal‘s LaLiga loss against Athletic Bilbao on Oct. 30 saw him require surgery and miss the World Cup.

Missing the tournament was disappointing enough, however, with Argentina going on to win the tournament saw the player miss out on a historic moment with his country.

Lo Celso has admitted that he has benefitted from the experience, telling D Sports: “At first it wasn’t easy at all, but I think all of that strengthened me and it will come in handy for the future,”

He has bounced back from the heartbreak and was on target in Argentina‘s 3-0 win over El Salvador on Saturday.

The former Real Betis player used his return as inspiration for Manchester United‘s Lisandro Martínez, who is currently sidelined with a knee injury suffered last month.

He added: “This group is beautiful, anyone who arrives establishes themselves very quickly. It’s a family and it shows, that’s why Licha Martínez came while he’s recovering and that reflects what the national team is, we all want to be here,”

Lo Celso always turns on the magic for Argentina, however, at club level, his injuries have hampered his impact at Tottenham.

With his contract set to expire in the summer of 2025, Spurs may have to decide at the end of the season whether it is time to cash in on the midfielder (transfermarkt).
