Everton preparing bid for promising LaLiga defender scouted by Liverpool

0 4

Everton are preparing a ‘concrete offer’ for Real Sociedad defender Modibo Sagnan to replace the loan departure of Jarrad Branthwaite, a report has claimed.

Branthwaite, 18, recently joined Championship side Blackburn Rovers until the end of the season after making just one appearance under Carlo Ancelotti this campaign.

According to MSN, the Toffees are looking to fill the subsequent void in their defensive options, with 21-year-old Sagnan their target.

The Merseyside club have supposedly been long-term admirers of the centre-back. The report states that they could soon approach Sociedad for his signing.

He joined the LaLiga side in 2019 from French second-tier club RC Lens for a fee in the region of £4.5million.

He was on the radar of Liverpool with France Football reporting Lens rejected the Reds’ attempt to sign the player in August 2018.

He found minutes hard to come by in his first season in Spain but has made 13 appearances in all competitions this term.

The Malian has just 46 professional appearances to his name but has already come up against the likes of Barcelona and Napoli.

Sagnan would likely find opportunities limited at Everton, with first-choice pair Michael Keane and Yerry Mina already backed up by Ben Godfrey and Mason Holgate.

His performances have helped Sociedad to fifth place in the La Liga table at the halfway point of their season.

Toffees agree fee for Bayern attacker

Reports in Germany, meanwhile, claim talks are ongoing about Bayern Munich striker Joshua Zirkzee’s loan move to Everton but a purchase fee has been agreed.

Reports emerged last week that the Toffees were hoping to swoop for the 19-year-old Dutchman. Ancelotti is looking for a loan deal to bolster his attacking options.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s injury has highlighted the need for more forward power. Capped five times by England, Calvert-Lewis has been in superb form this season.

The Sheffield-born ace scored 14 goals from 19 appearances in all competitions before injury struck. He will be tough to replace but the Italian tactician feels he has seen something in Zirkzee.

The Netherlands Under-21 star is now out of the Bayern first-team picture and looks set to leave. According to Sky Sports Germany, Everton are still in talks with the Bavarian giants about a loan move.

The deal would include an obligation to buy at the end of the season for €10million, according to Football Oranje. The youngster has enjoyed 16 first-team outings over two seasons and scored four goals after starting in the reserves.
