Trusty, McKenzie leave USMNT camp without senior caps

The center-back duo gained valuable experience in the winter camp, but did not appear in either of the two friendlies.

Philadelphia Union center backs Auston Trusty and Mark McKenzie have just wrapped up their first camp with the U.S. Men’s National Team, but neither of the young players made their full international debut.

The USMNT went 2-0 in their first matches under new manager Gregg Berhalter, shutting out CONCACAF foes Panama, 3-0, and Costa Rica, 2-0.

Walker Zimmerman and Aaron Long manned the back line in both games, emerging as the preferred center-back duo at Trusty and McKenzie’s expense. The two Union defenders were the only other center backs on the roster.

Chris Pontius was the last player to make his USMNT debut while he was a member of the Union. The California-native made a substitute appearance against Serbia in January of 2017.
