AIB League Cup
The AIB League Cup saw SWOXI face Sex Drugs and Carlton Cole, and it was the Premier Sunday side who came out on top with a brilliant 3-1 victory. SWOXI showed their class in the rounds leading up to the final and secured their League Cup Final place with a brilliant 4-1 victory over St Ketienne.
Meanwhile, Sex Drugs and Carlton Cole overcame Superleague legends The Hilltown Cheiftains in their semi final to secure their berth in the final with a narrow 2-1 victory. However it wasn't to be a fairy tale finish for the mid table Premier Saturday side as they fell to the hands of Superleague double winners SWOXI.
AIB Cup
The difficulty of claiming a much coveted Superleague treble has once again proved too much this year for SWOXI, as they were eliminated at the second hurdle in the last 32 against Fritzl Palace on penalties.
The AIB Cup Final was played at the UCD Bowl on Monday night, as FC Schustigan overcame Colonel Getafe in a tense encounter with a 2-1 victory to secure their first Superleague title. FC Schustigan certainly had a difficult path to the final as they overcame the strength and depth of Futbolito in the semi final and having beaten Paralympiakos, Two goals one cup, Damba Banter FC, and Show me the Mane, in the earlier rounds.
AIB Superleague Premier Saturday
There is perhaps a sense of Deja-vu for FC Schustigan again this year. After the disappointment of missing out on the title on the final day last season, this years league title ultimately game down to a showdown between the leagues top two sides to determine the destination of the title as Borussia Spunkonyarmumsbach and FC Schustigan faced off. However it was Borussia Spunkonyarmumsback who came out on top with a narrow 3-2 win in a 5 goal thriller.
AIB Superleague Division 1 Saturday
Superleague veterans, and reigning Division 1 Champions Colonel Getafe defied the odds as they retained their Superleague crown against all odds. Winning a Superleague title once is a difficult challenge, however successfully retaining the title is unheard of, and that is exactly what Getafe did. They also managed to do this while remaining unbeaten over the 19 league games they played which is a brilliant acheievement. However, despite all of their success, they will be very disappointed to have missed out on the double as they were narrowly beaten by FC Schusigan in the AIB Cup Final.
AIB Superleague Premier Sunday
The challenge of chasing an unprecidented Superleague treble ultimately proved too much for SWOXI as they were knocked out of the AIB Cup on penalties, however, they did manage to secure the much coveted double as they added the Premier Sunday title to their AIB League Cup title.
With just a few weeks to go, the title run was looking very interesting as Futbolito looked to claw back a six point deficit (they did have a game in hand), despite having the largest Superleague squad in history with their reserve side playing in the Divison 1 Saturday league, it ultimately proved too much for them. Needing victories in their final two games to force a playoff for the title they suffered a 2-0 defeat against title winning SWOXI, before another defeat in their final game of their season against Saint Ketienne.
