IN TOO DEEP: Carlos Salcedo Transfer

When I heard about Carlos Salcedo being transferred to Europe, I asked myself, what does this mean that a player from the Real Salt Lake academy has been bought for an amount almost double the MLS salary cap?

I don't mean how much does Real Salt Lake get of the transfer fee. I mean, how is it that a player from our academy got away from us and then ended up in Europe so fast?

With the new academy breaking ground, how do we learn from the Salcedo situation so we don't miss the "real" payday for players going thru our academy?
