why is gary neville so unpopular?

i don't get it, he's one of the best defenders england have had in the last 15 years, he's stayed loyal to one club for his entire career, he's played for one of the (maybe the) most successful clubs in the world all that time, he doesn't feel the need to be represented by an agent, instead preferring to have his union represent him, he hates liverpool, and his dad's called neville neville
