Trusty obviously didn't think he would score but it didn't just hit an outstretched leg, he knew what he was doing.

Well yes, he knew what he was doing ... as he said himself, he was trying to put it back into the danger area.
If you are insinuating that he did it with any expectation of scoring, then i'm afraid i believe what Trusty himself said as opposed to what you are stating - don't ask me why, just a hunch really !!
