The idea is offside is something objective, not subjective. One either is or is not offside. Schrodinger's offside.
The problem with the implementation is there is no allowance for camera frame rate or possible optical inaccuracy. Draw a thicker line and nobody would complain about being caught offside with that, it would be much less a margin call.
