The tariffs come into force on April 3. Vehicles imported under the United States-Mexico-Canada free-trade agreement will be taxed at the same amount based on their non-U.S. content. Meanwhile, auto parts covered by the trade agreement will face tariffs at a later date. The move upends decades of free trade in automobiles between Canada and the U.S., and threatens Canada’s auto sector.
