Hayden Select: BSSC Day 1 & 2

by Julianna Calvello

Day 1

The start of the Boston Synchronized Skating Classic competition began as a typical Saturday for us. Despite the fact this practice was held during our normal practice time at the rink we are so lucky to skate at, it really felt like we were at an unofficial practice at a competition we traveled to because we were all wearing the same clothes with our hair and makeup done. Once we finished practice, we headed over to the Performance Center to cheer on the Lexettes and Haydenettes in the short program, who put out two beautiful skates! The end of the Senior Division marked the end of Competition Day 1, and we all left the rink feeling super excited to perform our free program the following day.

Day 2

On Sunday, we met up at 7:15 am to carpool to the rink for official practice. After a great warmup and practice, we left the rink to do video review, eat, and get ready for our performance. It was such an amazing feeling for all of us to have the ability to do our hair and makeup together again while listening to our favorite songs. After about two hours we headed back to the rink, ready to go – the competition feeling was in full effect! We warmed up and made our way to the locker room to put on our dresses and skates. Seeing the crowded stands for the first time in a long time before we stepped on the ice was in itself amazing, but actually performing for everyone was even more incredible. After months of training, we could not wait to show everyone the opportunities, in not only choreography, but also the speed and unison, that came with only twelve skaters on the ice. It was definitely a moment that will never be forgotten.

With love,

Hayden Select
