13-year-old national champion figure skater joins Aurora Games
Perhaps the biggest draw yet to the Aurora Games was announced Friday morning.
Alysa Liu, the 13-year-old who in January became the youngest ever to win the U.S. women's figure skating championship, is among the athletes who will compete in the all-women sports festival Aug. 20-25 at Times Union Center.
Mirai Nagasu, the first U.S. woman to land a triple axel at the Olympics, also will participate in the Games. Liu and Nagasu will join previously announced Ashley Wagner on Team Americas, consisting of athletes from North and South America, in a matchup against Team World at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at the downtown arena.
Headlining the figure skaters for Team World is two-time Olympian Mae-Berenice Meite. The remainder of the Team World roster will be announced later.
