Kenyan boys edge Zambia to keep World Cup dream alive, women held in late drama

Kenya’s U21 hockey men’s team secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Zambia at the ongoing 2024 Junior Africa Cup in Windhoek, Namibia, boosting their hopes of reaching the classification matches, and potentially qualifying for the Junior World Cup.

It’s official — both the South African U21 Men and Women have qualified for the FIH Junior World Cup after commanding victories on Day 4 of the Junior Africa Cup in Windhoek. With one pool match remaining, South Africa has already locked in their places in Friday’s finals — where the African titles will be on the line.

South Africa faced sterner opposition against Kenya and Zimbabwe in their third and fourth fixtures, but came out unscathed after both fixtures with comfortable wins to qualify for the knockout medal ties of the Junior Africa Cup at the Davin Trustco Hockey Stadium in Windhoek, Namibia, on Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 April, 2025.

Both Nambia’s men and women’s u21 hockey teams are currently second on the log at the Junior Africa Cup in Windhoek and well-placed to qualify for the Junior World Cup later this year.
