Who is Moritz Fürste? HYROX co-founder and field hockey player
HYROX is a global competition which sees athletic veterans race alongside total newcomers.
Several athletes have rocketed to fame after taking part in the sport including Celia Duff and Marc Dean.
Who is Moritz Fürste?
Moritz Fürste is a former two-time Olympic hockey champion.
Born October 28, 1984, Moritz is quite the athlete.
He was a member of the German national team that won gold in the Olympics 2008, 2012 and the 2006 world cup.
Moritz was named the Euro League’s Most Valuable Player during the 2010 season and a year later he was awarded the title at the European championship.
Since retiring from hockey, Moritz continues his love of sport through HYROX, a global fitness race that he co-founded alongside Christian Toetzke in 2017.
Love life
Although Moritz likes to keep his personal life out of the public eye, we do know that he is married to Stephanie Furste.
It is unknown whether the couple have started a family.
But we do know they both love sport.
His wife Stephanie is a HYROX athlete who has competed in four races in three divisions.
HYROX
Hyrox is a race unlike any other.
This global indoor-event is a unique fitness race that combines running with functional work-outs throughout the circuit.
The idea is that participants complete a workout station each time they complete a one kilometer run, and this is repeated eight times.
Workout stations include diverse exercises such as:
- SkiErg — a fitness machine designed to simulate the motion of Nordic skiing
- Sled pushes and pulls — strength-based exercises performed using a weighted sled
- Rowing
- Burpee broad jumps — a challenging combination exercise combining a burpee with a forward jump
- Farmer’s carries — walking while carrying heavy weights in each hand
- Sandbag lunges — carrying a weighted sandbag while performing alternating lunges
- Wall balls — combination of a squat with throwing a weighted medicine ball against a wall above head-height
HYROX races are held in cities all over the world throughout the year and are designed in a way that’s accessible for all, regardless of fitness level.
- Open: For fitness enthusiasts and first-time racers
- Pro: For experienced athletes with heavier weights
- Doubles: Team-based format
- Relay: Team members split the race
The brand currently draws almost 200,000 fitness enthusiasts from around the world to jump on board to compete in an attempt to test their endurance levels – HYROX style.
In a post shared on Instagram from the HYROX event in LA on May 7 2022 Moritz said: “[It] sounds dumb because it’s our idea, but I’m sure HYROX will conquer the sports world.
“Fitness racing is a new category in world sport. HYROX is the sport.”
