Sports Briefs: Redwood field hockey overtakes MC for top seed

The field is finally set for the MCAL field hockey playoffs after Marin Catholic and University played to a 1-1 tie in the regular-season finale Friday. The Wildcats were chasing the regular season championship up to the final minute of Friday’s contest.

The outcome locked the Wildcats (10-0-4 into the playoffs as the No. 2 seed for a semifinal rematch with No. 3 seed University (9-2-3) in Kentfield on Wednesday. Top-seeded Redwood (11-1-2) will host No. 4 Tam (9-4-1) in the other semifinal.

‘We have worked hard all season to get to this point,” Marin Catholic head coach Patricia Hubbard said. “We have great team chemistry and a healthy mix of younger and older players who are hungry. The title is up for grabs by all four teams, and it is going to be a battle.”

Women’s volleyball

Dominican University opened a three-game homestead Thursday with a 25-19, 25-18, 25-12 victory over Azusa Pacific. Senior Sophia Hull racked up nine digs and one ace for the Penguins.

Mountain biking

The Mountain Bike Hall of Fame will open its doors on Saturday, Oct. 21, to the Class of 2023, including Shaun Palmer, Diddie Schneider and Rob Warner.
