Marin Briefs: Unbeaten Giants earn top seed for field hockey playoffs

Redwood High School wrapped up the No. 1 seed for the MCAL field hockey playoffs after a showdown of unbeaten teams in the regular-season finale on Friday. The Giants received scoring from three players in a 3-1 win over rival University in San Francisco.

Lucy Jeffers, Natalie Poncet and Justine Finch each scored for the Giants, with assists from Sammy Haan, Eleanor Titcombe and Bella Wagner.

“We are extremely proud of our team and are entering playoffs well-prepared and with lots of energy and determination,” Redwood coach Alene Copp said. “I know our girls will give it everything. They have worked so hard all season, and the first-place finish … is well-earned.”

No. 1 Redwood (11-0-3) is scheduled to host No. 4 Tam (6-3-4), which is making its first postseason appearance, on Wednesday. No. 2 University (9-0-4) will host No. 3 Marin Catholic (8-2-4).

“To be undefeated going into MCALs is an achievement the girls can be proud of,” Copp said.
