MENS 1STS START THE MHL SEASON WITH AN AWAY POINT

TBB will be frustrated with their  1-1 away draw to Old Cranleighans (OC) last Sunday.

It was a game which they dominated for the most part and a case of what should have been 3 points for the opening league match of the season.

Carson had the first attempt on goal in the 6’when his quickly taken shot was deflected wide by the Goalkeeper’s outstretched stick at head height. Carson opened the scoring in the 20′ after Wilson drove along the bye-line and made a parallel pass for Carson to tap in.

The second half was mostly one way traffic. Carson was unlucky not to get his second goal in the 41′ when Whitworth made a great counter attacking run. Slipping down the right, his cross was met by Carson close in only for his shot to smash off the crossbar. Loughrey was unlucky not to add to the scoreline in the 56′ when his penalty corner drag flick hit the post.

Old Cranleighans replied on the counter and earned a penalty corner which Jackson saved off the line leading to rather harsh penalty flick which was converted

The remainder of the game was played out in frenetic attacking fashion and solid defence by TBB with the end result of a 1-1 draw. TBB can take solace from their solid defending with the only attempt in the second half on their goal resulting in the mistaken award of a penalty stroke.  They will rue not have having taken earlier ample goal scoring opportunities.  A learning point for a young side, two of whom made their National League debuts.  Congratulations to Jacob Edwards and Goalkeeper Elliot Clarke.
