Community Matters at Epsom HC.

0 14

We know it’s hard to keep on top of everything in lockdown and we’re all looking forward to getting back to hockey. In the meantime, keep in touch with your teammates, look out for each other and stick together. Our community matters both within the Club and locally, to Epsom & Ewell and beyond.

Together, we’re better.

We’re all missing hockey. We all have our good days and bad days, ups and downs. It’s important to look out for your teammates, friends and family. Part of being at a club is to help support each other. Looking after our mental health is important, and particularly at times like these. Remember there’s always someone to talk to. It may be someone you know or could be a local counselling service such as The Lighthouse Counselling Partnership. They provide a confidential space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings. Together, we’re better.

Helping our NHS

We’re all extremely grateful and thankful for all our key and critical workers especially during current times. Epsom and St Helier Hospitals Charity have recently launched an appeal to fund an interactive, digital ‘magic carpet’ for the children in the Casey Ward at Epsom Hospital. Renovations to improve the A&E department are also well underway. We know there have been many visits to the hospital, especially on a hockey weekend! Wouldn’t it be great to give something back? For those who can, click through to the Casey Ward Magic Carpet donation page.

Looking to help out or seek a new career in healthcare? There are plenty of volunteer and job opportunities within the NHS. We have one of the major vaccination centres on our doorstep up at the racecourse, and a number of our members already work for the NHS. Why not join them? Community matters at Epsom HC. Start here.

Support your local community

It was great to see so many supporting the Hygiene Bank Ashtead and Epsom when were were last at Old Schools Lane. You can continue to do so at local drop off points around Surrey. Find out more online here and via social media channels.

In addition, the Epsom & Ewell Foodbank are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK. There are four location points nearby and donations (food, laptops, monetary gifts) are always welcome. They are also looking for volunteers. Click here to learn more about the foodbank.

Keeping active is important for all. Active Surrey is a not for profit organisation helping Surrey residents realise the benefits of an active lifestyle. There are some fantastic resources for all. Take a look online.

There are other ways to support your local community during lockdown and beyond. Continue to shop local (including with our partners Schmidt Epsom, Hannibal Brown and Dragon Hockey), look out for your neighbours, volunteer and stay home as much as possible. It has been known for people to take their hockey sticks out for a walk – a novel way to introduce others to our great sport?! Keep up those skills and stay safe!

Amazing (Club) Volunteers

Here at the Club, we are always looking for amazing volunteers to help out in every which way possible. We all have skills beyond the pitch and we wouldn’t exist without volunteers. The more the merrier of course. So, if you have any ideas, some time to offer, want to get involved more with club matters, or keep us all virtually active or entertained – please get in touch!

Go on, be the difference. Your Club needs you!
