Men’s 1s: outclassed at Old Georgians

0 3

Old Georgians 2s: 5

Epsom: 2 (Frawley, Midmer)

Epsom travelled to St George’s College to take on second-placed Old Georgians 2s. This had been a keenly contested 5-4 thriller in October at Old Schools Lane but there was no real drama here as a much stronger OGs side outclassed Epsom from the start. OGs took the lead almost immediately with a skilful drive down the right baseline and clinical finish. Soon after, OGs attacked and fired the ball in and it was snapped up at close range for 2-0. To their credit, Epsom fought back and a right-side attack saw James Midmer’s bobbling cross reached Mark Frawley who converted from close-range for 2-1. OGs immediately regained their control of the game and scored a third goal from close range after another sharp move. Epsom levelled the play up a bit going into half-time and Alex Bond fired just over the bar at a short corner. So Epsom went into halftime 3-1 down but with some hope; this was immediately extinguished when straight from the restart OGs attacked down the right and snapped up a well-worked goal for 4-1. Soon after the hosts won a short corner and a low dragflick made it 5-1. To their credit, Epsom never gave up and continued to work really hard in the second half even though the game was gone. James Tuck made several decent saves. Shortly before the end Epsom won a short corner and James Midmer finished a neat routine for a consolation goal. Despite the result this was an enjoyable game played in great spirit and we wish OGs well in their title push.
