Sad News about Dave Short
With great sadness we report the death of one of our Vice Presidents, David Short.
He was an exemplary clubman and a gentleman in all senses of the word.
David served as Chairman and, for a period of 12 years, was our longest serving Fixture Secretary. He is possibly best remembered as 3rd XI captain throughout 1984-94 setting a calm example to a batch of youngsters including young firebrands McLennan and Bell.
Though teetotal he organised our pre-season South Wales tours
David was also instrumental in the negotiations for the move to Oakwood Farm in the seventies and played a key role in the development of the Astro.
More recently he and I have been quietly vying with one another for the ‘oldest playing member’ tag to see who could keep going longest - I take absolutely no pleasure from winning that contest
The funeral will be on 16th July at midday at Macclesfield Crematorium and afterwards at the Alexandra Court Hotel, Congleton for anyone who wishes to attend.
