Emma McCart showed some potential last fall by getting called up to the varsity level for sectionals as a seventh-grader.
Look at her Sunday. Still not in high school, but every bit the sectional champion and star. She scored the only goal as Hoosick Falls pulled off a slight upset of Johnstown in the Section II Class C field hockey championship.
The matchup at Gloversville High came between two teams sporting 18-0 records.
McCart, the youngest of either squad, scored 9:32 into the first half on a point-blank shot.
"Emma has tremendous skill," Hoosick Falls coach Denise Campbell said. "That's why she's starting for us. She played JV for us last year and got a little taste of what this level was like.
