Match Previews 23rd to 25th March

What a weekend ahead! With nine matches over the next three days there is plenty opportunity to catch a match or two!

Friday 23rd March

First up are our u15s on Friday night against Western. Following a 3-2 defeat of Clydesdale on Monday night the boys are keen to get back on the pitch and keep the goals flowing.

Saturday 24th March

Saturday sees the 1st team continue their National League 1 programme away against Uddingston. Hillhead won the reverse fixture 4-0 back in October including a hattrick from Graeme Campbell. Rumour has it that Uddingston have bolstered their squad over the Christmas break, so the Hornets will have to be at their best to come away with three points.

Hillhead 2s currently sit top of Regional 1, with 10 wins and 3 losses. One of those defeats was to Edinburgh University 2s at Peffermill. The 2s welcome the students to GHK at 3pm hoping to pick up vital points with only a handful of games remaining.

The 4s travel across the city to Titwood to face Clydesdale, last week saw the guys start well but stutter following the loss of Craig Hilton due to injury midway through the first half. GMK will be hoping to rally the troops and secure 3 points as the season moves into its final stages.

The 5s will have their work cut out for them despite home advantage. They welcome league leaders Helensburgh to Old Anniesland for the days late push back.

The 7s have an important match against Dumfries in the lunchtime fixture, Hillhead are only 3 points ahead of this weekends opponents with three matches to play.

Sunday 25th March

For the second part of this weekends double header, the 1st team take on Dundee Wanderers at GHK. Dundee picked apart Hillhead at Dalnacraig back in September, with the Hornets failing to register any goals. The boys will be desperate to secure three points and regain some ground in the league.

The 2s travel east to play Fidra Lions in the Mens District Cup. This fixture fell victim to the snow last weekend and the 2s are keen to secure a place in the semi finals. As well as a solid league campaign the 2s have enjoyed a great cup run so far, scoring 14 goals and conceding only twice.

It’s tight at the top of Regional 2, Hillhead 3s trail Glasgow University by a point. Looking at the league table shows two remarkably well matched teams. Hillhead will look to the experienced Stevie Pollock to keep the defence organised at the back allowing flair players like Andy Maclaine to grab goals up front. This is going to be tight.
