Hillhead v Meinzishill

0

As your author sits nursing a two day hangover and deep regret over the incredibly metrosexual photos circulating on social media, it seems as good a time as ever to compile my first match report for Hillhead.

After three wins on the trot, the hornets were buzzing to keep the upward trend going. In their way stood top 3 side and indoor specialists meizieieszeszhill, themselves coming off the back of a strong run of form. The squad welcomed back Robert Nimmo, who seemed to have spent more time pulling Glasgow’s pavements than fresher babes. Ben Walker also returned, after a week out for personal reasons (#justiceforbruno). On the face of things, it was an even match up with the potential to be a thriller. However, the match started slowly with both teams cagey in possession and with little chances or corners for either team. It was clear the match was going to be tighter than a pair of Joma track pants on a bulging calf. Hillhead started to apply the pressure but four short corners went unconverted. As the half was nearing its end, captain Duke, perhaps anxious that he was yet to pick up a card this season, did not get his five yards and a corner was conceded to Menzeeshill. Let us hope his judgement of distance is better in the day job. Luckily for Duke the corner was well defended and the half finished 0-0.

The second half started disappointingly with Mezzaninehill scoring two goals in quick succession. Hillhead responded quickly by winning a PF and Duke converted with interest, low into the bottom left hand corner. His ironic attempts to recreate ‘the celebration’ did not go down well, perhaps forgetting that we were still one goal down. Hillhead pushed on hard but was it too little too late? It seemed there was one more chance left in this game. A surgical pass from Crooks found Jamieson in the D. Pete Burns would have been proud of Jamieson’s attempt as he failed to connect with the ball and found himself spinning right round and into a dejected heap on the cold hard ground. If he didn’t laugh, he would cry. Often sport comes down to these small margins and Hillhead were left ruing another loss by one goal and what could have been.

Man of the match went to Crooksy after an assured performance at the heart of defence. The three points returning to the City of Discovery with the hornets left with some soul searching of their own to be done. Fortunately, Glasgow’s finest pizzeria was on hand to cure any heartbreak and the author quickly forgot his blunder in a haze of vodka, questionable fashion choices and self-loathing.  Hillhead’s run may have come to an end, however the focus is now on clipping Western Wildcat’s claws in the last game before the winter break.
