A splendorous Maryland Million!

0

Eighttofasttocatch-2014-Maryland-Million-ClassicNorthview sired runners once again dominated the Maryland Million Day card, as two-thirds of the runners hitting the board were conceived at Northview Stallion Station. And leading the way was Maryland Million's all-time leading sire Not For Love.

For the third time in the past five years, Not For Love had a record-tying four winners on the day, all in six-figure races. The $150,000 Classic was won for a record third time by Not For Love's son Eighttofasttocatch, who dominated the mile and an eighth feature to win by more than four lengths. The victory pushed Eighttofasttocatch's earnings to just shy of $1 million for owner Sylvia E. Heft and trainer Tim Keefe. The chestnut gelding bred by Dark Hollow Farm and Herringswell Stable is now being aimed for the Jennings Handicap, a race he won the past three years. Not For Love is the sire of the winners of a record six Classics: in addition to Eighttofasttocatch winning in 2011 and 2013, Not Abroad won in 2012, Cuba in 2008 and Presidentialaffair in 2004.

Other winning Not For Love offspring in 2014 were Nursery hero Golden Years, bred in West Virginia by O'Sullivan Farms and now undefeated in both his starts for owner Hillwood Stable; TomRus LLC's D C Dancer, bred in Maryland by Katharine M. Voss and Robert T. Manfuso and the fifth Not For Love son to capture the Sprint; and Classy Coco, bred in Pennsylvania by Jonathan Thorne and Mr. and Mrs. Rick Abbott and a previous Lassie winner who this year scored in the Distaff, which Not For Love fillies have now won five times.
