Stakes Victory for Zousain 2YO Filly
Talented Zousain filly Verzain found the best way possible to break her maiden when producing a tenacious effort to win the Listed SAJC Without Fear Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville on Saturday.
The Phillip Stokes trained filly was second on debut at Murray Bridge in January and was then second when resuming from a short break in the Listed SAJC Dequetteville Stakes last month.
Ridden by Jacob Opperman, Verzain hit the front with a furlong to run and then had to work hard for it with Ole Kirk filly Ole Girl in for the fight.
The two fillies knuckled down for a ding dong battle to the line with Verzain doing best to win by a neck.

Verzain was a $40,000 Magic Millions Book 2 purchase from Goodwood Farm for Mick Malone Bloodstock and runs for a big ownership group that will be thrilled to have a stakes-winning filly on their hands.
She was bred by Jen Campin Bloodstock and is the first winner from Written Verse, a placed Written Tycoon mare from the family of dual Group I winner and champion sire Extreme Choice.
Written Verse has a yearling colt by In the Congo that sold for just $10,000 at Magic Millions Gold Coast March and produced a colt by the ill-fated stallion Wyndspelle last spring.
Verzain is the fifth stakes-winner for Widden Stud’s Zousain.
