Cheltenham day 3 tips, including a ‘consistent winning machine’ and a 16/1 tip in the first race

We’ve made it through to the third day of the Cheltenham Festival. Have you managed to back any winners so far? Perhaps you’d like to hear what our racing experts have to say regarding their Cheltenham day 3 tips.

Day three is traditionally St Patrick’s Thursday so will we see a surge of Irish trainers in the winner’s enclosure as well as the sea of Irish supporters already enjoying this year’s Cheltenham Festival?

Thursday’s big races are the Paddy Power Stayers’ Hurdle and the Ryanair Chase, but there are also some cracking handicaps to get your teeth into. Here are some Cheltenham day 3 tips to help guide you through the afternoon, whether you’re watching Cheltenham on TV or at Prestbury Park.

Cheltenham day 3 tips

Jack Richards Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase tip (2pm)

The Bluesman
Trainer: Olly Murphy | Jockey: Sean Bowen
Racing journalist Carl Evans says: “The Bluesman is a handsome chap, and his chasing career is coming along nicely. With champion jockey Sean Bowen in the saddle he makes plenty of appeal as an each-way bet.”

Close Brothers Mares’ Hurdle tip (2.40pm)

Wodhooh
Trainer: Gordon Elliott | Jockey: Jack Kennedy
Cheltenham Festival-winning trainer and H&H columnist Kim Bailey says: “With Lossiemouth going for the Champion Hurdle, this race looks set up for Wodhooh. She’s tough, consistent and a winning machine.”

Paddy Power Stayers’ Hurdle tips (3.20pm)

Ma Shantou
Trainer: Emma Lavelle | Jockey: Harry Cobden
Racing journalist Tom Peacock says: “There are a lot of old hands who might be past their best in this race but Ma Shantou has a younger set of legs and there was a lot to like about the way he won the Cleeve Hurdle last time. Each-way contender.”

Kabral Du Mathan
Trainer: Dan Skelton | Jockey: Harry Skelton
Racing journalist Carl Evans says: “Kabral Du Mathan has been impressive in two races this season, and while he has yet to tackle a race of this distance he gives all the signs of being able to handle it.”

Ryanair Chase tips (4pm)

Banbridge
Trainer: Joseph O’Brien | Jockey: Sean Bowen
Racing journalist Carl Evans says: “Banbridge was unplaced in this race two years ago, but showed his wellbeing when beaten no further than a flared nostril by The Jukebox Man at Kempton on Boxing Day.”
