Road to Kentucky Contest begins Saturday, Jan. 17

Here it comes again!  The annual Road to Kentucky Handicapping Contest kicks off in the Racebook with racing from the Fair Grounds on Saturday, Jan. 17. The 16-week contest, which is free to enter, runs each Saturday and highlights Kentucky Derby prep races from across the country. This Saturday is the Lecomte Stakes at the New Orleans racetrack.

Each week the entire card from a feature track is used for the contest. Bonus races are Derby Prep races and finding the winner can make the difference between scoring prize money and running up the track. Players select one horse in each contest race and earn points based on a mythical $20 Win Place Show wager. The bonus prep races award double points and on the final day, May 2, the Kentucky Derby is triple points.

Cash is awarded weekly to the top five scores and the top three also earn a grand prize contest entry to compete for a $500 entry to the 30th annual Dog Days of Summer NHC Qualifier.

Weekly Prizes

1st= $200 + grand prize entry

2nd= $150 + grand prize entry

3rd= $100 + grand prize entry

4th=$50

5th= $25

Entries are taken on the day of each contest but for those that cannot be there on the day of, advance entry is offered each Friday during Club Level Mutuels hours.

Playing regularly gives entrants a chance to win overall prize money. The player with the best cumulative score, after dropping the three lowest scores of the 16 weeks, wins $1,000. Shane Bogeman is the defending champion. He won overall honors without ever winning a single week.

This contest is free to enter however minimum tracked pari-mutuel play using MVP Rewards card is required for full prize payout: $30 in pari-mutuel wagers each contest day for weekly prizes and $480 in pari-mutuel wagers for all contest days combined for overall prizes. Minimum play must be made using MVP Rewards card. Cancelled wagers are not considered valid for minimum wager determination. Should a weekly or overall winner not meet minimum wagering requirements, 10 percent of the cash prize will be awarded.
