Snocross Races into Canterbury Park Jan. 9-10

Snow is the crucial ingredient needed for AMSOIL Championship Professional Snocross to succeed yet Mother Nature alone rarely provides enough. When the second stop on the eight-event national tour that stretches from South Dakota to Quebec visits Canterbury Park in Shakopee, Minn. Jan. 9 and 10, massive heaps of race-perfect snow, made from 2.5 million gallons of well water, will have been sculpted into a competitive course, complete with jumps, moguls and tight turns, built on Canterbury’s horse track in front of the grandstand. Add to that the six inches of natural snow that fell Sunday and conditions will be perfect for the professional supercross racing that has attracted thousands of fans to Canterbury over the past three decades.
“This extended cold spell means perfect weather for making snow of the consistency we need to build the largest and fastest course possible” Snocross President Carl Schubitzke said. “Snocross at Canterbury Park is one of the premier stops on the tour. Racing fans will see the exciting style of racing they have come to expect here.”
More than 300 riders will be competing over the two days. The international cast of racers includes both professional and amateur men and women ranging in age from 5 to 45.
Racing begins at 10:20 a.m. Jan. 9 and 8:45 a.m. Jan 10, continuing throughout each day. Several Pro division titles will be determined in the evening programs which begin with 6 p.m. opening ceremonies.
“Snocross is truly an international event with athletes coming from throughout Europe and the U.S. but there always has been strong support for the industry in our state and many top athletes call Minnesota home,” Schubitzke said.
General admission ticketing begins at $26 for Friday and $32 Saturday. Two-day passes and reserved seating options are also available here .
Pro Racers with Minnesota connections include Ryley Bester of Prior Lake, Makenna Kleiman of Proctor and Logan Christian of Fertile.
