Full Brothers Deliver Star Stakes Double in Tasmania

0 2

Five year-old Needs Further gelding Durazzo continued his domination of the summer racing in Tasmania at Hobart on Sunday racking up his third successive stakes win when taking out the $125,000 Listed Kevin Sharkie The Inevitable Stakes (1600m), putting the spotlight on his yearling half-sister heading to 2026 MM Tasmania.

Sporting the Star Thoroughbreds colours, the Barry Campbell prepared Durazzo was ridden by regular partner Kelvin Sanderson, and the pair combined for a stylish half length win over perennial bridesmaid Just Cruisin’.

Durazzo was strong all the way to the line taking his overall record to 11 wins and two seconds from 15 starts with earnings just shy of $580,000.

Durazzo was a $97,500 Magic Millions Tasmania purchase from Armidale Stud for Star Thoroughbreds/Randwick Bloodstock Agency. Bred by Armidale Stud, he is the best of three winners from five foals to race from Arenzano, a winning Not a Single Doubt mare from the family of Group I winning sire Super Seth.

Earlier in the day, Star Thoroughbreds celebrated a first stakes win with another promising three year-old in Mazzini, who is a full brother to Durazzo.

Trained by Barry Campbell and ridden by Kevin Sanderson like his older brother, Mazzini won the $75,000 BWS 3YO Trophy (1400m) at his previous start and stepped up again to win the $125,000 Listed Tasmanian Guineas (1600m).

He started a red hot favourite and bolted in to win by more than three lengths taking his overall record to five wins from six starts with earnings topping $219,000.

Mazzini was a $145,000 Magic Millions Tasmania purchase from Armidale Stud for Star Thoroughbreds/Randwick Bloodstock Agency and was the sale-topper in 2024.

Arenzano has a yearling filly by Brutal that will be offered by Armidale Stud at MM Tasmania in 2026 as Lot 70.

Arenzano missed in 2024, but was covered early this spring by young I Am Invincible stallion Bodyguard, a new addition at Armidale Stud priced at $8,800.

Mazzini is the tenth stakes-winner for Armidale Stud’s Needs Further, who has 15 entries for the 2026 Tasmanian Magic Millions.
