Widden Graduate Weeping Woman Brings Pedigree Update
Foaled and raised at Widden Stud for her breeder Ian Cornell, progressive Lonhro mare Weeping Woman claimed a valuable Black Type win at Randwick on Saturday when taking out the Listed ATC Razor Sharp Stakes (1200m).
Trained by Joe Pride and ridden by Zac Lloyd, Weeping Woman has been making good progress through the grades this spring and was sent off favourite for her first crack at Black Type.
She had the benefit of a light weight and scored by half a length over seasoned stakes-winning sprinter Coal Crusher, who carried 61kg.

“She is a push-button horse to ride,” Zac Lloyd said. “She puts herself on speed, she travelled lovely for me.
“It was my first sit on her, and I couldn’t be more impressed with her. She tried very hard, and she didn’t beat a slouchy field today.
“To be beating horses like Coal Crusher, a proper Group 1 weight-for-age horse, it’s a real feather in her cap.”
As for where she goes now, Joe Pride feels he may give her one more run.
“I might give her another one in the Canterbury Classic on New Year’s Day,” he said.
“Either that or maybe a little freshen up.”
Weeping Woman has the overall record of seven wins from 16 starts with prizemoney topping $440,000 and is the 99th stakes-winner for champion sire Lonhro.
She is a half-sister to stakes-placed Magnatear being the best of four winners from four foals to race from Cries and Whiskers, an unraced Street Cry (IRE) half-sister to stakes-winners Global Warming and Pure Purrfection, the dam of stakes-winners Outback Barbie (dam of SW Hi Barbie) and Barbie’s Sister.
Second dam She’s Purring and third dam Ringside Lady are also stakes-winners, so it’s a very solid Black Type female family nurtured over time by Ian Cornell.
Widden Stud will offer the current yearling half-sister by Pinatubo (IRE) to Weeping Woman at Inglis Premier as Lot 571.
