Newsletter Fall 2025-Thank you for an incredible season!
Dear Riders,
First, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of you who joined us in 2025. Your passion, loyalty, and feedback have been invaluable in helping us refine our tours and continue to grow.
This year, we welcomed riders from all over the world, exploring Iceland’s remote wilderness together on our unique horses. Thanks to you, the 2025 season was truly unforgettable.
We also introduced new tours, shared great adventures, and enjoyed a summer blessed with favorable weather—we can only hope for the same in 2026!
Smaller Groups – Bigger Herds
At Íshestar, we remain dedicated to quality, safety, and the well-being of our horses. While some in the industry cut costs by increasing guest numbers and reducing horse herds, we stand by our philosophy of:
-Smaller groups (12–14 riders) allowing for a safer, more personal experience, less waiting time, and stronger connections between guests.
-Bigger herds (50–100 horses, depending on the tour) ensuring well-rested, happy horses and a greater variety of mounts for our riders, while preserving the joy of traveling with a free-running herd.
We believe this philosophy offers our guests a safer, richer experience and guarantees the welfare of our horses—even if it comes at a slightly higher cost.
Respect for Guests, Horses, and Nature
We are passionate about making horseback riding in Iceland a sustainable activity. Every tour reflects our respect for our guests, our horses, and the environment.
Our goal is simple: to provide unforgettable adventures while ensuring the safety and well-being of both riders and horses.
Classic Tours in 2026
We are delighted to once again offer our most popular tours:
Chasing Waterfalls in the South
Kirkjufell, Löngufjörur, and Snæfellsnes in the West
Each of these tours has its own unique character and showcases a different side of Icelandic nature — from colorful rhyolite mountains and hot springs, to black sand beaches, thundering waterfalls, and the striking landscapes shaped by volcanoes and glaciers.
New Adventures
Forces of Nature (10 days, August 2026)
A pioneering tour of over 300 km, circling the mighty glacier Mýrdalsjökull with Katla volcano beneath, and ending at the black beaches of the South Coast. This challenging and unparalleled journey will be led by Kristín and Valtýr. Seats are very limited!
Snæfellsnes Returns
Back by popular demand, with two 5-day departures in July and August 2026. Guided by Halldór, who has led tours in Snæfellsnes for over 20 years, this journey combines mountains, valleys, lava fields, and golden and black beaches—all with the herd running free beside us.
