Ding Dang Dulce wins $71,300 Northlands Futurity by a head

Relentless Rocket easy winner of $42,300 Canterbury Park Quarter Horse Derby

Ding Dang Dulce, trained and owned by Haley Hobbs, won Canterbury Park’s richest quarter horse race, the $71,300 Northlands Futurity, on Thursday. The 2-year-old gelding, who paid $3.00 to win, prevailed by a head over longshot Rowdi. Fernando Fonseco-Soto rode the winner.

Hobbs purchased Ding Dang Dulce for $10,000 at the 2024 Heritage Place Yearling Sale. “I had him picked early before I even got to the sale,” Hobbs said. “I had my eye set on him and he was not easy to break. He was a brat. But he was worth it. He’s been amazing. The key is you’ve got to keep him happy. He does his own thing. He’s the boss and as long as you let him do his thing he’ll do it.”

Ding Dang Dulce has now won three of six starts and $73,395 in purses. He covered the 350 yards race distance in 17.935 seconds. Holliewood, trained by leading trainer Jason Olmstead, finished third.

In the co-featured $42,300 Canterbury Park Quarter Horse Derby, Relentless Rocket won the 400 yard race for Olmstead and owner Tom Maher. Relentless Rocket has not lost in five starts at Canterbury and has a career record of seven wins from 14 starts and $116,430 in earnings. Relentless Rocket, ridden by Ramiro Garcia, paid $3.60 as the favorite, beating a late-charging Rompe Corazonez by 3/4 of a length. Venetian Cowgirl was third.
