Main Yard redevelopment unveiled, funded by The Childwick Trust and the Gerald Leigh Charitable Trust
The British Racing School is delighted to announce the completion of a significant redevelopment of the Main Yard, made possible through the generous support of The Childwick Trust and the Gerald Leigh Charitable Trust. The transformative project has substantially enhanced the School’s facilities, further cementing its reputation as a world-leading training centre within horseracing.
The comprehensive Main Yard redevelopment upgrades include:
- New stable doors and wooden shutters replacing single-glazed windows, to improve insulation, horse comfort and increased airflow, also allowing horses to look out onto the quadrant for the first time
- Raised stable ceilings, increasing airflow, light and space for horses
- Installation of friendship grills between boxes, promoting equine well-being
- Enhanced veterinary facilities, supporting the highest standards of horse care, including floor lighting for better examination visibility
- New wash bays, improving hygiene and convenience
- A modernised trotting ring, supporting practical training needs
- A reconfiguration of the staff yard office offering better onsite facilities for staff
- A dedicated new laundry area to streamline stable management
- Re-laid rubber walkway, enhancing safety for horses and staff
- Repainting of all buildings across the main and top yard, giving the area a refreshed, professional appearance
Andrew Braithwaite, Chief Executive of the British Racing School said, “We’re incredibly grateful to The Childwick Trust and the Gerald Leigh Charitable Trust for supporting the redevelopment which has elevated the standard of care we provide for our horses and also created a better learning and working environment for our students and staff. Likewise, during the redevelopment we were also extremely lucky to be provided with temporary stabling for our horses, courtesy of LH Woodhouse. This important project forms part of the School’s ongoing commitment to providing industry-leading facilities and reflects our mission to prepare students for successful careers in horseracing.”
The team at the BRS are all so grateful for the support of The Childwick Trust and the Gerald Leigh Charitable Trust, and cannot wait to watch present and future students and horses enjoying the new facilities.
