What Blair Means to Gemma Stevens (nee Tattersall)

Gemma rode at her first Senior Championships here at Blair in 2015 when we hosted the European Championships. Here she tells us what that meant to her.

“Blair Castle really does have so many incredibly special memories for me.

Firstly, it’s just such a special place, the atmosphere and feeling it creates is so unique – hacking around when you first get there with the beauty of the mist on the hills and the incredible white castle was almost spine-tingling.

Next is the fact that I went to my very first championship there in 2015, on my horse of a lifetime, my precious Arctic Soul.

Even though I was entered as an individual, team GBR requested that I went out early which really put our pathfinding skills to the test!

It was the wettest day I’ve ever known in the whole of my Eventing career – so wet that I could barely see the jumps, but I just let Spike gallop up and down the hills and we came home clear and inside the time. It was such a special feeling.

Our round at Blair gave me the opportunity to be the pathfinder for Team GB when we won the World Games gold medal at Tryon 3 years later.

Thank you Blair for so many wonderful memories that are too many to name.”
