Delicatesse off the mark at Lingfield Park

Newmarket multipurpose trainer James Owen maintains his lead on the UK Arabian trainers’ championship with a win for Delicatesse who he bred in partnership with former ARO director Rachel Gowland, from a mare who’d he also trained to win twice. The four-year-old filly was having her first start at six furlongs, a trip her dam Delishess had won over at Grade 2 level when starting her career in the USA. Coljani and Paddy Bradley were second for Peter Hammersley and the Raffles Partnership, with Owen’s other runner, Zizania Du Mazet third under apprentice Fred Daly.
Partnered by stable amateur and current ARO Leading Jockey Teagan Padgett, Delicatesse relished the drop in trip and won quite easily in Owen’s colours by two-and three-quarter lengths. She could make a quick reappearance on Saturday at Chester, shouldering a six pound penalty in the season’s most valuable handicap the Wathba Stallions Cup (0-70) Handicap, featuring a prize fund of £15,000, for which runners declare tomorrow.
