STAKES RACING VALUE TO BE WON ON VOBIS SIRES RACES

The December calendar sees 20 VOBIS Gold events to be run, all carrying $30,000 in VOBIS Sires Boost vouchers, but what is very much a golden opportunity for owners are the three two-year-old events run on metropolitan Saturdays.

Each carrying $150,000 in prize money, the races also carry $30,00 in Super VOBIS bonuses, $20,000 in VOBIS Gold bonuses and the extra $30,000 in VOBIS Sires Boost vouchers, meaning these three races are to the value of a whopping $230,000.

The first of these events will be run at Ladbrokes Park Hillside on December 10, open for all two-year-olds run out of the 1000m chute.

Thoroughbred Breeders Victoria (TBV) President James O’Brien is excited to be part of a program that gives owners the opportunity to race for such rich bonuses along with giving trainers the opportunity to target their young crop at races to the value of more than $200,000.

“Our main aim from this is to give people an amazing chance to race in valuable races, not just over a carnival but across the calendar year in Victoria,” O’Brien said.

“The Super VOBIS and VOBIS Gold bonuses are a big incentive in themselves to breed and race in Victoria, but the addition of VOBIS Sires is just the cherry on top that takes the VOBIS scheme to arguably the best and most valuable in Australia.

“If you are breeding your mare to a VOBIS Sires stallion, you are then giving prospective owners the chance to cash in big and ultimately enhance the price of your weanling and/or yearling as the sales.”

As we enter the 2023 calendar year, TBV is excited to work alongside Racing Victoria to continue to improve the program, offering more golden opportunities for connections to take advantage of both provincial and metro races, including bringing these big boosts to Saturday three-year-old events.

“One thing that we are looking at implementing in the new calendar year is to offer the VOBIS Sires Boost vouchers on not only two-year-old Saturday races, but three-year-old events as well,” O’Brien expressed.

“These races could essentially be lead up events to both The $1 million Showdown (two-year-olds) and $500,000 VOBIS Sires Guineas (three-year-olds) where you are racing for big value before you even reach your Grand Final.

“As we head into the sale season, I encourage everyone to look for the progeny of 2020 nominated VOBIS Sires and nominate your yearling for VOBIS Gold, as that is how you give yourself the chance to make the most of this immense value.”
