Miccosukee Greenway, Crump Road, January 16, 2021

0 6

I arose early to feed so Arrow could have time to digest his food and relax before our ride. I had everything ready to go the night before, as usual. Hay and water for Arrow; snacks and water for me. What was peculiar was Arrow seemed to know we were going somewhere even before I drove the trailer to the barn. I believe horses are telepathic!
I loaded him and down the road we went. When we arrived at the Crump Road trailhead, the other riders were already there tacking up. Sue was with her mare Quia; Esther with her Arabian Mare Dana, and Kinsley (Esther’s granddaughter) was with her Kentucky Mountain Gelding Percy. It was windy and quite cool. We took the route that had the least number of rocks. Some of it is single track and heavily wooded. Sue and I commented that it could use some trimming. At one-point Quia had her head stuck in a vine “loop” but was a good girl and calmly backed up so she could get untangled. Sue even lost her hat, which Arrow stepped on and left a nice imprint of his foot. I dismounted and retrieved her hat. Unfortunately, the strap was broken but will easily be repaired.
Once we arrived at the second road crossing Sue decided to head back since she had somewhere she needed to be. The rest of us decided to not cross the road and stayed on the fire break that led back to the first road crossing. I had never been this way and loved it! We trotted and racked a little. So much fun! I enjoyed meeting Ester and Kinsley, and learned quite a bit about NATRAC, which I may join in the future.
Happy Trails!
Wendy and my Arrow
