TPT on Tour: Improving the Trail Near Brookfield Park, Rotherham
On a chilly November morning, we got our hands dirty in the name of Trail improvement! Robert and I joined forces with dedicated volunteers David and Diane Bright, and Naomi along a section of the Trail near Brookfield Park in Rotherham. Our mission? To widen the Trail to its original width, ensuring it’s safe and accessible for all users.
After a full briefing and armed with tools, gloves, and plenty of enthusiasm, we spent two hours working hard to clear vegetation encroachment. It was a morning of hard graft, but the results were worth it—this stretch of the Trail now looks fantastic and ready to welcome even more visitors!
The morning’s efforts were met with plenty of encouragement from Trail users. We were passed by cyclists and walkers who were out in force, enjoying the bright, chilly weather. Among the friendly faces was Steven Dennis, the man behind the popular Ride Barnsley Facebook group. Steven, who is a passionate advocate for cycling, stopped for a chat and cheered us all on as we worked.
This kind of hands-on work is so rewarding. It’s not just about improving the Trail—it’s about connecting with the people who use it and making sure it’s a space they can enjoy year-round.
The TPT relies on the dedication of volunteers and staff alike to keep the Trail in top shape. Moments like this—where teamwork, community, and a shared love for the great outdoors come together—are what make the Trail so special.
If you’re inspired by this story and want to get involved, keep an eye on our volunteering opportunities or join one of the many local groups that support the Trail.
Here’s to many more mornings of hard work and even bigger smiles!
