Finding the right bike shorts

I just had my first ride after 20 years and my tail hurts. I'm riding a road bike and using my old bike shorts which are a little too small and the chamois is a little too thin. I'm looking for some new shorts but all I can find is shorts with this massive 3D or 4D padding in them. I tried them...
