Anyone riding a Trek Slash 8? What about a Rocky Mountain Instinct Alloy 50?

I'm looking to purchase a mountain bike and I think I have my search narrowed down to these two bikes. I've done a lot of research on line and am curious to know if anyone here has some real world experience they are willing to share.
Alternatively, if you are riding a comparable bike and think it's a good bike for newbies, please let me know.
