27" Tire Pressure

On my steel road bike with 27" 1 1/4 tired, the maximum psi listed on tire is 80 and that's what I fill to. My aluminum road bike with 700c 25mm tires says max 125 psi and I fill to 100.
Could this difference in pressure have as much to do with the steel bike's superior comfort as the frame...
