inline barrel adjuster help

I have installed a couple of Shimano inline barrel adjusters on a road bike frame with concealed cables. The front mech adjuster seized up almost straight away whilst the rear mech still operates ok. The suppliers have sent me a new set but suggested that he the adjusters should not be operated...
