Take the cleats out before riding platforms?

Hey all,

Put in SPD cleats on my new Wolvhammers and was hoping to ride my clipless bike today but we are receiving a massive snowfall and it looks like I will be riding my beater MTB at my courier job. Should I take the cleats out before riding on platform pedals with the boots?
