Crank arm - pedal thread wear from installation/removal?

While changing pedals on my 1979 Panasonic triggered a thought: if one uses proper tools and techniques to remove and install pedals, are the threads on the crank arm vulnerable to wear over time (from repeated remove/install)?

I've not seen any books or online discussions covering this point....
