Memorial women, Calgary men win titles at 2026 U SPORTS/CCAA Curling Championships

Seahawks edge McMaster on women’s side; Dinos take out Carleton for men’s title on final shot of tourney

REGINA – Saturday’s thrilling conclusion to the 2026 U SPORTS/CCAA Curling Championships hosted by the University of Regina saw Memorial’s women’s team and Calgary’s men’s team win national titles at the Caledonian Curling Club.

Memorial started the day off on the women’s side with a 5-2 semifinal win over the host Regina Cougars, while the other semifinal saw McMaster score two with the hammer in the eighth end to pull out a 3-2 victory over Alberta.

Those semifinal results set up a showdown between Memorial and McMaster in the women’s championship game. The Marauders took a 4-3 lead into the seventh end, but the Seahawks scored one with the hammer and then stole a single point in the eighth to give Memorial its first U SPORTS women’s title.

Saturday’s men’s bracket started out with two close morning semifinals. Carleton outlasted Alberta by a 6-4 score, and Calgary scored a pair in the final end to pull out an 8-6 victory over Memorial.

The men’s final saw Carleton and Calgary trade early punches with the Dinos scoring three in the third end and the Ravens replying immediately with three in the fourth. Carleton scored one in the eighth to send it to extra ends tied at 6-6, but Calgary skip Kenan Wipf executed a perfect hit and roll on the final shot of the tournament to give the University of Calgary its first national curling title.

Alberta won both of Sunday’s bronze medal games. The Pandas defeated Regina 8-2 to take third on the women’s side, while the Golden Bears took a 6-3 victory over Memorial to claim bronze in the men’s competition.

The 2027 U SPORTS/CCAA Curling Championships will be hosted by the University of Calgary next year from Feb. 22 through Feb. 26 at the Calgary Curling Club.
