Canada’s Team Homan to play for bronze at 2026 Olympics

CORTINA d’AMPEZZO, Italy — Canada’s Team Rachel Homan will compete for bronze at the 2026 Winter Olympics after falling short in the semifinals.

Sweden’s Team Anna Hasselborg defeated Canada 6-3 on Friday afternoon at the Cortina Curling Olympic Stadium.

Down by three with hammer, Skip Homan and her team — third/vice-skip Tracy Fleury, second Emma Miskew, lead Sarah Wilkes, alternate Rachelle Brown, team coach Heather Nedohin, and national coaches Viktor Kjell and Renée Sonnenberg — fought to keep their playoff hopes alive, but couldn’t find a miracle comeback.

Hasselborg executed a runback, removing two Canadian stones and ending Canada’s chances of tying the game.

Canada will face Team Tabitha Peterson of the United States in the bronze-medal game on Saturday at 8:05 a.m. (all times Eastern).

“It was a grind out there; they played well. We just kind of struggled to get the rocks in the perfect spot to get a multiple (score), and they were on us,” Miskew said. “Cracked a multiple on us and then we couldn’t really catch up…it was a battle, we would have been pretty happy at the start of the week getting a chance for a bronze medal, so we’ll come back tomorrow and try to be sharp.”

The United States fell 7-4 to Switzerland’s Team Silvana Tirinzoni in the other semifinal.

Sweden scored the first deuce of the game in the sixth end. Team Homan tried to hit and roll behind guards along the centre line but nosed the target, giving Hasselborg a straightforward hit for two.

Team Hasselborg extended the lead with a stolen point in the seventh.

The Canadian men, led by skip Brad Jacobs, will play for gold against Great Britain’s Team Bruce Mouat on Saturday at 1:05 p.m.
