McMaster and Calgary traded points throughout a tightly contested matchup, with McMaster eventually prevailing 7-6 in an extra end. Memorial picked up a 5-3 victory over Alberta after scoring two in the eighth end, while Queen’s opened its tournament with a convincing 10-3 win over New Brunswick.

Alberta, Calgary, Carleton, and Memorial took wins on the first day of the men’s competition. Alberta defeated defending champions Wilfrid Laurier 4-1 in a low-scoring affair. Carleton used a three-point steal in the third end to build early momentum and went on to a 7-3 win over host Regina. Memorial broke open its game against York with a five-point steal in the seventh end, securing a 10-3 victory, while Calgary scored four in the seventh to defeat Dalhousie 7-3.

The championships feature eight men’s teams and eight women’s teams competing in round-robin play through Friday. Draws continue Wednesday with games scheduled for 12:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. local time.

The top four teams in each competition will advance to the semifinals on Saturday morning, with gold and bronze medal games set for Saturday afternoon.
