Day 1 at the CCAA Curling Championship
Red Deer Queens 12 – Assiniboine Cougars 3The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens cruised to a 12–3 victory over the Assiniboine College Cougars. The Queens jumped out to an early lead, scoring three in the first end and four in the second to take control. They maintained momentum with three more in the fourth and two in the sixth, forcing the Cougars to play catch-up. Assiniboine managed singles in the third and fifth ends, but the game was conceded after six ends with Red Deer firmly in command. Humber Hawks 7 – Assiniboine Cougars 4The Humber College Hawks defeated the Assiniboine College Cougars 7–4. Assiniboine started strong with a point in the first, but Humber responded quickly to keep the game tight. The turning point came in the fourth end when Humber surged with four points to take a commanding lead. While the Cougars added a single in the sixth, Humber countered with a point in the seventh to secure the win after eight ends. PACWEST 14 – Humber Hawks 3The PACWEST women’s team opened their championship defense with a dominant 14–3 win over the Humber Hawks. PACWEST made a statement early, scoring five points in the second end and adding six more in the fifth to put the game out of reach. Their precise shot-making and strategic play set a high bar for the rest of the tournament. Gaillards d’Abitibi-Témiscamingue 11 – Mohawk Mountaineers 3The defending champion Mohawk men’s team fell to Gaillards d’Abitibi-Témiscamingue 11–3 in their opening match. The Gaillards built an early lead with strong ends in the first and third, then sealed the victory with a massive six-point fifth end. Mohawk struggled to find their rhythm as their opponents executed clinical shots throughout the game. SAIT Trojans 7 – Niagara Knights 3The SAIT Trojans women’s team secured a 7–3 victory over the Niagara Knights to start their championship run. SAIT built momentum with key points in the second end and controlled the house for the remainder of the match. Niagara struggled to generate a multi-point end, as SAIT’s precise strategy kept them in the lead until the final stones. Concordia Thunder 9 – Mohawk Mountaineers 4Concordia claimed a 9–4 win over Mohawk in a steady performance. The Thunder built an early lead with singles in the first two ends. Mohawk fought back with a two-point effort in the fifth to tie the score, but Concordia remained composed. They finished strong with a decisive four-point score in the eighth end to pull away for the win. Sault Cougars 6 – Concordia Thunder 3The Sault College Cougars men’s team earned a solid 6–3 win over the Concordia Thunder. After a cautious start, the Cougars took control with a two-point score in the fourth end. Concordia tried to rally with a deuce in the sixth, but Sault College immediately answered with two points in the seventh to seal the clinical victory. NAIT Ooks 8 – SAIT Trojans 5The NAIT Ooks defeated the SAIT Trojans 8–5 in a back-and-forth matchup. The game was close early on, but NAIT took control in the fourth end by scoring three points and followed up with a steal in the fifth. SAIT tried to rally with two points in the sixth, but NAIT answered back in the final ends to finish the game. |
