2025 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship slides into Assiniboia, Sask., on Sunday
Assiniboia, Sask., is set to host the best Canadian mixed teams from across the country starting this Sunday.
Fourteen teams will compete at the 2025 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship at the Assiniboia Curling Club. The event runs from Nov. 2-8, 2025, and by the end, one team will be crowned the Canadian mixed champions.
The excitement ramps up as teams are split into two pools of seven for round-robin play, which ends on Wednesday. From there, every draw counts as teams keep their records and re-enter new pools on Thursday.
From each pool, the top four teams advance to the Championship Pool to play the four teams from the opposite pool, while the bottom three follow the same structure in the Seeding Pool. This stage of the event runs until Friday.
Starting Saturday, the top four teams in the Championship pool play in the semifinals at 10 a.m. (all times CST). The losers compete for bronze, and the winners will play for the national championship at 2:30 p.m.
The field is stacked with heavy hitters, including Saskatchewan’s fan-favourite Team Jason Ackerman from nearby Regina. Ackerman and his wife, Colleen, are back to chase another title, after their victorious 2012 run and a silver in 2024 alongside second Sam Wills. This year, the team added 2019 Scotties bronze medallist Robyn Silvernagle.
Silvernagle’s teammate from the Scotties is also in the field. Jessie Hunkin, who has two appearances with Saskatchewan at the Canadian women’s championship, skips Team Alberta. Hunkin is one of two female skips this year. Betti Delorey leads the way as skip for the Northwest Territories. It is the first time two women have played skip at the same event since 2005.
The whole field includes:
- Alberta – Team Jessie Hunkin (Crestwood Park/Manning)
- British Columbia – Team Miles Craig (Victoria)
- Manitoba – Team Sean Grassie (Winnipeg)
- New Brunswick – Team Rene Comeau (Fredericton)
- Newfoundland & Labrador – Team Rod Feltham (Gander)
- Northern Ontario – Team Charlie Robert (Sault Ste. Marie)
- Northwest Territories – Team Betti Delorey (Hay River)
- Nova Scotia – Team Brent MacDougall (Halifax)
- Nunavut – Team Peter Van Strien (Iqaluit)
- Ontario – Team Sam Mooibroek (Waterloo)
- Prince Edward Island – Team Robbie Doherty (Cornwall)
- Quebec – Team Yannick Martel (Chicoutimi/Nairn/Jacques-Cartier)
- Saskatchewan – Team Jason Ackerman (Regina)
- Yukon – Team Scott Williamson (Whitehorse)
Victory means even more this year as the winning team will represent Canada at the 2026 World Mixed Curling Championship (date, location TBA by World Curling).
